Gyms in London

We all know that a gym is the place for physical exercise and many of you are probably aware that the original word gymnasium (Greek: gymnasion) came – as everything good – from Ancient Greece. There the ‘gymnasion’ was a place for socializing and engaging in intellectual pursuits.

Not quite as many people are aware that the first half of the word, the Ancient Greek term ‘gymnós,’ meant ‘naked.’
Here we go! Gym means look good naked!

We can think of some more modern versions of what could stand for ‘gym’ …Get Yourself Moving, Grow Your Muscles or whatever else, it’s up to you ;)
