5 steps to create a personal training account on Instagram

There’s no doubting the power of Instagram, and if you’re a personal trainer looking to boost your online presence, you need it. Every newbie can really benefit from expert tips on starting a business, so when you act on experience you’re setting yourself up for success. And how you market yourself is fundamental to that success. With that in mind, here are five steps to help you create your personal training account on Instagram.

  1. The basics

The first step in any business/marketing plan is to do exactly that – plan! That means researching and defining your goals. For starters, check out what other fitness influencers are doing. Pick out ideas that you like and the areas where you can differentiate. Then define your goals. Where do you want to be in six months, or this time next year? How many followers are you aiming for?

Make sure your profile photo represents the professional you and that you’re well presented – fellas, now might be a good time to freshen up your knowledge of how to shave your chest.

Think carefully about the words you use in your bio. Be positive, and list your skills, achievements and qualifications. This is your chance to pitch to the online world, so take your time and get feedback before posting. It’s just as important as knowing how to write good titles and descriptions for a business directory. And don’t forget to add a link to your website, if you’ve got one.

  1. Use high quality photos and videos

Now you’re ready to post to you personal training account on Instagram. And it’s all about the visuals. Always use high quality photos and videos. If you’re ever unsure about blurriness, poor sound quality, or interference, redo it. If you haven’t already got a decent camera, now would be a good time to invest. And the same goes for editing software and apps.

Another top tip (a must, really) is to post pictures and videos of yourself working out – not only to show that you are what you say you are, and to provide direction, but also as an opportunity to sell yourself, too. Again, only use quality videos. That can’t be understated. You could be the best personal trainer in the world, but people will just switch off if your content isn’t high quality.

  1. All about the hashtag

The hashtags you use will make it easier for potential followers to find you, but they can do way more than that too. For starters, you can use hashtags to promote your brand. Come up with something that represents your brand and add it to every post. Gradually, that will help build your profile and help you track engagement. That way you’ll know when something’s working and when to change it up.

  1. Engage with your followers

The content that you post on your personal training account on Instagram is key to attracting followers. It may involve a little trial and error, but once you start to get some traction it can grow exponentially with follower loyalty. The key to that? Engagement. Make your captions interesting and varied – short and sweet when that’s all that’s required, and longer when you want to get more info across.

Engaging further is a great way of keeping followers and them becoming your champion online advertisers. Reply to questions and comments. Go the extra mile and add additional content. It could be meal plans, wellness inspiration, or grooming tips for your male followers, like how to shave your chest. The more engaged your followers are, the more your audience will grow. And you know what that means? A chance for you to further sell the benefits of your online training, and increase business.

  1. Reach out to other influencers

Finally, and this may be something that takes time, reach out to influencers on Instagram. You may get knock backs initially, but when it works it can be huge. Imagine the reach you could get by creating a network of influencers with thousands (even millions) of followers.

If you can, you need to exploit any opportunity. Small word of caution, though; always make sure you’re happy for someone to align themselves with your brand, and that they don’t represent something that doesn’t fit your ethos.

Put these tips into play and your Instagram fitness following will soon become very healthy.
